The Grain of a Commit
The same work can be cut into very different shapes.
A commit is a cut, not a unit of value. One author separates a rename, a test and a fix; another places them in one patch. Two branches can reach similar ground while leaving very different scales behind.
A useful cut serves the next reader: where did behavior change, where is the reason, and what can be reverted alone? Fine grain does not automatically bring clarity. Explanation and reversibility make history useful.
