Give Complexity a Home
A later note on tracing a service call.
Writing this later note, I return to a thought from recent work tracing a service call: using an interface should not require learning the arrangement of every machine behind it. Entering a room should not require understanding the plumbing of the whole building.
Simplicity still asks for care. The caller needs to state the request clearly, and the service needs to look after its internal complexity. Giving each layer an appropriate responsibility can reduce detours and make the work easier for the next person to understand.
